Bigger, better, brighter, and most importantly, the URL that I've been looking for. Welcome to the new Hey Paul Studios blog! I hope you will find this new site to be a resource for your crafting ventures, home decor quests, or for easy reading.
My blogging attempts started out in 2009 when I created Spectacles on Tumblr. You know the site. I wanted to start a blog because all of the crafty women that I knew had one. I eventually moved over to Blogger and started "Spec-ta-cles" where I have been blogging ever since. With the new business name and need to start fresh, I wanted to build myself a new home. I'm so happy to be here!
In 2010, I opened my Etsy shop. At the time I was pumping out yo yo hair clips faster than I could find places to sell them locally or to friends. That market and trend dried up after less than a year. Feeling uninspired and without a creative challenge, I pulled up an instructional embroidery video on YouTube and took note. I pulled up that video today and became a little wishy washy.
After watching this video again, I realized that I had no idea at the time that I was watching one of the most successful, self-taught embroidery artists and entrepreneurs of my time. Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching has been one of my personal heros since I started stitching. She recently "favorited" an embroidery piece of mine on Instagram and I was floating on Cloud 9 for days. Secondly, it's ironic that she was stitching a derby girl design in the video. Sweet irony!
Back to current times, I look forward to using this new blog to share resources, connect with other Indie artists and business owners, and to spread the creative spirit. Be sure to check out the various page tabs under the banner for more goodies. Feel free to share, comment, and connect.
